If you're a small business owner, press release distribution is the key to getting your brand in front of people who can help spread the word about what you do and how. And if you're looking for a way to get your press release on Google News, here's how:
Step 1: Ask yourself if your content is newsworthy
Before you start typing, ask yourself: Is this content newsworthy?
There's a basic formula for determining if your content is newsworthy. The first step is to determine what kind of information you're looking for. If it's an event or story that happened recently, then chances are good that it's not going to be considered as "news" by Google News.
Once the criteria has been established (and we'll cover each in detail below), then it's time for the second step: asking yourself why this story is important enough to warrant inclusion on Google News. For example: Did a celebrity announce something big? Did an official from an organization provide insight into their work? Or perhaps the most common reason—a celebrity dies suddenly and unexpectedly; here are some examples:
Step 2: Write your release
Be clear and concise.
Use active voice.
Include the inverted pyramid.
Include the five Ws: Who, What, When, Where and Why (and/or quotes from sources). If you need more space to write your story or if you're using an image to illustrate it then include a photo or image at this point as well.
Step 3: Look for media opportunities
Once you've submitted your press release, it's time to look for opportunities. Google News is a great place to search for these opportunities. You can use keywords like "press release" or "media release" in the search bar at the top of any page on Google News. If there are any results that include your publication, click on them!
Once you've found some results that include your publication and its topic(s), scroll down until you see an author section labeled “Byline” (or something similar). This is where all of the articles were published by journalists/reporters who wrote about what they covered in their stories—and now there might be someone writing about how great something else was too! | |
